I found out about these cases through the Thingiverse build of the filament spool dispenser. While I haven't messed with all the printed parts in this build, these containers are perfect for the Hatchbox filament spool (and probably most filament spools). The material of the canister allows the spool to rotate freely within the canister. The cable gland on the printer allows me to change filaments easily by inserting a hose into the gland and tightening.
