We bought this lighter because we didn't want to worry about running out of gas. Especially when hiking these days we all have extra batteries to charge all our electronic devices. At first I was a little concerned with some complaints of scary noises when turned on, but seriously, as you can hear in the attached video, it's a noise but not loud or a scar. The high-voltage arc generates noise. It's nice not to have to deal with a long flame blowing in the wind. At home, the long flame of a gas lighter is romantic. Camping downwind isn't attractive as you're trying to keep igniting. Note that the flame only exists between the two ends of the fork (at the tip). To start a fire, take a sheet of paper or cardboard and insert it between two tines of a fork or very close to the arc. Works well - tested. The size is smaller than our gas lighter and it is very easy to use. Good value for money.
