I should start by saying that this is not my first Teflon-coated iron shoe. I had several. Some of them were great, and then there's this one. While it does its job of preventing fabrics from fading, I've had instances where it left a hole pattern imprint on my fabric (viscose and ultra-suede in particular); Luckily I ironed the back of my item so it wasn't too much of a problem but that might be in a different situation. The main reason I love this type of shoe is that I can iron the fabric at a higher temperature than it can normally handle (e.g. silk). However, the thickness of the plastic on this particular shoe is such that it takes quite a while for the heat to be transferred: a real problem when you need high temperatures. . eg connection through the press fabric. Another issue I had was the design: the single iron attachment spring only allows me to attach it around the "back" of my iron, which doesn't make a very secure fit. Shoes can slip an inch or two from side to side. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but doing so exposes my iron's stainless plate to fabric that would otherwise be protected, leading to potential burn/melting issues. If you can position these shoes correctly on the iron, iron at a constant high temperature to ensure heat penetration, and move quickly to avoid imprints, this is a good choice for you.
