I recently bought a new Samurai after selling my SKX007, a good watch but with an accuracy that is unacceptable to me. Yes, I understand that automatic movements are never as accurate as quartz movements, but the SKX was really off-timed even after recalibration. Still tired of the inability to hack the clock and start it manually. After reading some reviews of the new Samurai and being impressed by their looks, I decided to take a chance and buy another automatic dive watch. First, this is a fairly heavy watch for its size. I'm small and anything over 45mm in diameter is too big for my wrist, so the 44mm Samurai is about as wide as I can get. Although the watch sits fairly low on the wrist for a diver, it feels like it weighs more than comparable Seiko divers. It took a few days to get used to, but that's ok. The appearance is really beautiful. The new monster-inspired hands and hour markers are large enough for a 62-year-old with reading glasses to easily read. And the Lumibrite backlit hands and markers are the best of any mid-range watch in my opinion. I can clearly see the time all night in bed with a slight dimming of the glow. All in all a nice watch. The Samurai is easy to disassemble and set up (admittedly not difficult for a dive watch), and the screw-down crown is snug and secure. The bezel rotates freely, but not TOO freely. I really like the fluted crown and bezel; I've never seen this on a watch and it's a nice touch. As for accuracy, I've had the watch for a week now and am pleasantly surprised that the watch is consistently only 15-16 seconds off a day. I use a watch winder when I'm not wearing an automatic watch, but since the Samurai is "hackable" and can be wound by hand or through daily wear, I don't really need it. Haven't had a watch in the water yet but don't expect any issues based on previous Seiko divers. So far, so good. I will update the review if there are any issues, but if my experience with previous Seiko automatic watches is any guide, I expect lasting quality from this one.
