Misleading characteristics of light bars

I bought a 20" light bar advertised as 288W and 28800 lumens. As an engineer, I was suspicious of that statement. 288 watts is a lot of power and would require a current draw of 24 amps from a 12 volt system. I connected the light and measured the current consumption with the clip on the ammeter. That's 66 watts, not 288. Current LED technology delivers about 100 lumens of light per watt. That means it's a light bar with about 6600 lumens. misleading specifications. US companies are regulated by the FTC and cannot easily set specifications for their products. How else can we as consumers make the right choice? It's time for China to stick to the same standards.

Pros
  • Reflector cup upgrade: wide reflector plate on both sides offers different refraction angles, ideal for ambient lighting
Cons
  • Big and bulky
