To be honest I had to google to get our old iPad out of the box so I knew what I was getting into when I put it together. Immediately after packaging, defects in the transparent part of the protective film were noticed - starting with the home button and ending with a protective film several centimeters long. The defect is only visible at certain angles, and when visible it looks like a fan of deep iridescent cracks along the corner of the screen. However, there are no tears on either side of the protective film, which leads me to believe that this was just some weird mistake that happened when the plastic was made. I needed the Otterbox as soon as I ordered it (I went on a trip and got a new iPad) so I didn't have time to worry about returning it and shipping a new one. The defect is never visible from the front, so the problem only occurs when multiple people are looking at the iPad at the same time. My wife was a bit overwhelmed by the 'no disappointment' packaging as I believe it was only in a clear plastic bag inside an Amazon box - almost giving the impression that it was a used/returned item involved, specifically one with a screen problem.
