Works well but you also need to buy a power cord

I finally installed this tiny vent above my garage door. The hole wasn't that big, and the fan was much larger than the hole itself, with a T-shaped wooden pole covering the center. So about 50% are unlocked. It seems ok, it was a bit wobbly with only 2 brackets so I had to build 2 sidemounts out of flexible sheet metal and screw them to the edge of the 2 brackets so I could reach the wooden plank for support. . Now it doesn't rattle anymore. A few cons. Didn't know it didn't come with a power cord. I went to Lowe's and they were out, I went to Home Depot and they were out, finally found it at Ace Hardware for $10 (you need a 3 pin connector with white, black and green wires). I think it was my fault for not reading the fine print about the PSU. However, if you plug it into existing power or a switch, I don't think it matters. Another disadvantage: When installed flat, the blades protrude a little and rub against the front surface. Because of this I had to pull out the unit with the brackets a bit to keep it from rubbing (unfortunately this made it wobble and less stable/supported so I needed the last 2 brackets). Also, make sure to test the device before proceeding with the installation. During shipping the blades flexed backwards and we touched the inner motor mounts causing the blades to rub so I had to flex them outwards. Finally, it's a bit noisy, but when I'm standing in the garage I hardly notice it. For those picky about the thermostat, mine seems to be working fine. When installing I cranked it up to about 105 and it turned on and works fine. Until then, let's see how long it lasts!

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No automation
