Great RV Tool - Monitoring keeps your toad alive

I bought this to monitor the battery in our MKX while towing behind our 30ft Class C RV I am using my Android phone LG-K30 with a downloaded application to monitor battery status in the car. The MKX tow brake system uses the vehicle's battery to apply the brakes and since the engine is not running the battery will drain after each application. After an incident where the car decided its battery was too low and so went into "system disabled to save battery" mode, which was a little disconcerting. I don't know if this deactivation affects the "Neutral Tow" mode that allows you to tow the MKX for four people, but luckily when it happened I was in the middle after a 320 mile ride Driveway parked. Run 12V to the car battery via a 7-pin connector system via a diode and a 15A circuit breaker. This allows the E-450's battery/alternator to deliver a charge when its voltage is at least 0.7 volts higher than the car battery (this is the voltage drop across the diode). The monitoring system provides me with a constantly updated status of the voltage, so that I can see the voltage drop after braking and rise again by 10 volts each time I drive on. I recommend the product and will probably buy 2 more to monitor truck and house battery health. Check out the pros and cons below for your information. Advantages: 1. Easy to install in the car and not too complicated to set up the application (my phone is smarter than me), 2. High accuracy of voltage measurement. Cons: 1. Loses "connected" status quite often, transmitter under hood is about 35ft from phone. (I've found that if I keep my phone upside down in the cup holder, it doesn't lose connection as often! But I have to read it upside down.) 2. Alarms/Percent/Status are unrealistic. Does the app say the battery is 40% charged when the voltage drops to 12.4V and only show 100% when the battery is above 12.7V? (I just turned off notifications and am watching the screen change color as there is no way to adjust the percentage and under voltage cutoff points.) 3. Drains the phone's battery so you leave the phone plugged in and a "" Force Stop" at the end of the day, otherwise it will keep running in the background.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
