Get this. Big box of stencils. I don't know what the other problem is. It was easy to work with them. They are made of durable plastic, quite thick and tough. The cut side connections are not difficult if you take your time. Nothing in them will cut your finger unless your finger is made of tissue paper. I took a piece of cardboard, cut out a rectangular hole about the size of the letters I needed and taped all the tabs together with blue painters tape. Bought $0.98 HD black spray paint and started spray painting our company name on all my stairs. It turned out just as I expected. My only suggestion is to make sure the letters are flat on top and use pieces of tape to hold everything in place. I took it off as soon as I stopped spraying. No problem. Spraying up and down works better than spraying left to right. If you're looking for the perfect finish then you need something else, maybe a printed vinyl decal.
