Judging by other reviews we were afraid of excessive noise and almost didn't buy this product. Our unit arrived undamaged and looked brand new and unopened. We like the small footprint, we also planned and used the flat top as a TV stand. We turned it on and immediately felt like it wasn't loud at all. We then tested it with a sound measurement app on our phone (the "Physics Tool Box" app) from a distance of 6 feet and were quite surprised at how little noise it made. For reference, the average background noise level at home is around 40 decibels (dB), while just a whisper is 30 dB and a normal conversation is around 60 dB. Our house is new, well insulated, in a quiet area and overall quite quiet. Our test: Device off (related to the background noise level of our house): 30 dB Flame only low: 32 dB Flame only high: 32 dB Flame high plus heating low: 35 dB "Flame" on high power plus heating high: 37 dB The device added negligible noise compared to our home's baseline.
