Review on πŸ›€ DANCO Chrome Decorative Metal Tub Spout Remodeling Cover Ring, 1.5" ID and 3.6" OD (10007) by Jeremy Tang

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Depth limited design

I chose this 10007 stainless steel pad over Danco 80001 plastic just because I read somewhere that one is 3/8" deep and the other is only 1/4" inch . , (although I now see 1/2 inch specs for both, so I guess I screwed up). I needed a at least 3/8 inch deep to fill my gap and didn't care if it was metal or plastic for such a small trim as both look and function the same. Unfortunately, my tub's spout that comes out of the wall is curved so there is a 3/8-1/2 inch gap on one side that narrows to 3/16 inch on the opposite side. This model has a built in and raised metal backplate on which the tub spout rests which severely limits the ability to adjust the depth at which the spout can be positioned within the ring. This panel is about 1/8" below the top of the trim ring while the 1/4" deep balance is behind this panel filled with this piece of foam. What a disappointing design! Rather than return it, I got out my tin snips and cut the joints 3/4 around that inner panel, then hard bent the "teeth" back and to the side, then trimmed them so they didn't walk Don't go past the base and don't hit the wall... and finally cut a groove in the foam to accommodate the teeth! Wall. This upgrade worked, but took me several hours to complete. I would have preferred the simpler and more flexible design of the 8001 hollow ring for my needs in this case, but I managed.
