Compared to Nitecore "New i2" at the same price, this charger has some advantages and disadvantages. Nitecore and Eastshine appear to be related Chinese companies, but the two chargers are very different from each other. Both have major design issues typical of unnamed Chinese products. On the other hand, the Eastshine S2's display is far superior to the Nitecore New i2, which simply has LED "dots" for each battery and display setting. Eastshine displays actual voltage, current, time and a 5-segment charge level display. It can also display the battery type, which is particularly important for distinguishing between Li-Ion and LifePO4, which chargers cannot reliably auto-detect. On the other hand, the Eastshine's vents are poorly designed. Most of what looks like cooling vents is fake, and the only "exhaust" for heat is a series of tiny vents along the top of the display. But most of the heat is generated deeper, closer to the batteries. The back of the charger is quite warm to the touch, meaning the internal temperature is likely to be quite high. It's just a stupid design flaw. Why make fake air vents that are blocked? The Nitecore, which is the same size and charges at the same speed, has much better ventilation and runs much cooler. Both suffer from the fact that they accept such a wide range of cell sizes that you have to be quite careful when positioning the cell. Some cells can easily slip off and lose contact at one end or the other. It's far from perfect, but it's hard to avoid when you're looking to charge anything from a AAA cell to a fat 26650 cell. Both Eastshine and Nitecore require reading poorly translated instructions to learn how you change various settings. At least The Eastshine Display makes it easier to tell what you're doing. It's very cryptic on Nitecore. Both come with AC and 12 volt DC power cords. Among them, the Eastshine S2 is the best charger because of the display as long as it doesn't overheat.
