Safer than using a wire brush.

I've been using wire brushes to clean my grill for a while and I've found the wire bristles getting on the food. We're lucky there haven't been any serious problems from this so far. I've been looking for an alternative to brushes for a long time and this is the best I've found. It does a pretty good job of basic cleaning, but I think a metal scraper can be used with it. I would buy again.
