The exact same device hung on my wall for 17 years controlling fan speed and fan lights. The light part stopped working as if it had a short circuit so it had to be replaced. It is much better to control the fan with a wall box as in my experience the constant tugging on the fan switches is tedious and the fan switches don't last long. 17 years of operation! Highly recommended.
