Excellent combination of digital camera and camcorder

I have had this camera for 3 months now and am very happy with my purchase. If you're looking for a camera that's both a great digital camera and a top-notch camcorder, there really is no other choice that can match the DMC-GH1. And while some would rightly point out that this camera is expensive, it's good value for money, especially when you consider the excellent 14-140mm kit lens that comes with the camera. What's good about the DMC-GH1? Good: Interchangeable lenses and the versatility of a DSLR in a slightly smaller and lighter body than any DSLR on the market. The performance of a camera that comes very close to a DSLR with an APS-C sensor. I say "close" because these DSLRs have a slightly larger image sensor than the DMC-GH1, which gives them a certain edge in low light. However, compared to other micro 4/3 format cameras, I would rate the DMC-GH1 as superior - it outperforms the competition, including other Panasonic cameras, thanks to the better sensor in the DMC-GH1. like a camcorder that outperforms any consumer camcorder. When used properly, the 1080 24P mode looks nothing short of incredible - and by right I mean setting the shutter speed to 1/50th of a second, giving the video a "cinematic" look and minimizing the motion artifacts that occur in 24P video be able. I find that using a 1/50 second shutter speed also reduces compression artifacts in the recorded video. For sports videos, the DMC-GH1 also offers a 720 60P mode, which is only available on very few camcorders other than digital cameras. As a camcorder The DMC-GH1 offers features that make you love using it as a camcorder. . Unlike the HD video mode of every DSLR, the DMC-GH1 offers useful autofocus during movie recording with the included lens. The DMC-GH1 is also the only digital camera I know of that has a built-in stereo microphone, as well as support for an external stereo microphone. The onboard stereo mic is pretty good for what it is, too - recordings I made over the last Mariachi Band weekend had decent fidelity and good stereo imaging. - Excellent optical image stabilization with a complete lens. I've successfully shot handheld with the DMC-GH1 in 1/15th of a second and have shots that are shake free due to camera shake. Autofocus with a full lens is silent. This may not be a big deal with most digital cameras, but with the DMC-GH1's outstanding video quality and stereo audio support, you'll want to use the features of a camcorder, and the silent autofocus means you won't hear any motor noise while watching the soundtrack of your Movies when using the built-in stereo microphone. -Ability to play with depth of field. The DMC-GH1 has an image sensor large enough to work with depth of field in a way you can't with other camcorders (and non-DSLR digital cameras). So what do you not like: , price. The DMC-GH1 is the most expensive Micro 4/3 camera on the market, and also a lot more expensive than entry-level DSLRs like the Canon Rebels. But compared to those cameras, the DMC-GH1 has a much better kit lens. It also has much superior video recording capabilities - other Micro 4/3 cameras are limited to 720 30P video, and while Canon's latest Rebel supports 1080P, it lacks a built-in stereo microphone and the ability to use autofocus while recording. DMC-GH1. It's smaller than a DSLR, but not small. Some of the latest Micro 4/3 cameras are significantly smaller than the DMC-GH1. So if you're looking for something small and don't care about the video capabilities of the DMC-GH1, look elsewhere. It won't win the megapixel war. The 12-megapixel DMC-GH1 is in line with other Micro 4/3 cameras, but not the latest generation of DSLRs. The latest Rebel, for example, has an 18-megapixel camera, but if you're using the Rebel with the included lens, I doubt you'll ever see that extra resolution. If you can carry a device that offers both a digital camera and a camcorder, then the DMC-GH1 is for you. While the DMC-GH1 may be expensive, it's still cheaper than the cost of a good DSLR (or Micro 4/3 camera) plus a good HD camcorder. And it will outperform this camcorder too. If you don't care about the video performance of the DMC-GH1, you can look elsewhere. Although the DMC-GH1 is a very good digital camera, if you exclude the DMC-GH1's video capabilities from your comparisons, there are other worthy contenders.
