This set is a good choice for a beginner although the advertised coupon was not applied to my order. There are a few small cuts on the mat that could be from manufacturing. It's a little stiffer than I expected, but it works for me. Be sure to store it in a horizontal position, otherwise it will bend and deform. When mine was delivered the side of the box was bruised and there is a 1 inch crease on one of the long sides that I can't smooth out. The cutter works fine. It was in the semi-locked position in the packaging, so check before trying to force it. Additional blades are oiled and should be wiped dry before use. The ruler is made of comfortable acrylic with easy-to-read markings.
