The charger charges batteries fine. However, if left unattended it will overcharge NIMH batteries. I made that mistake once, when I started wondering about this the first time I used it I checked the batteries and they were up to 1.37 volts. Rechargeable NIMH batteries (IME) should only be charged to about 1.33 volts, the batteries that came with this charger survived the overcharge but when I first started using NIMH rechargeables I wrecked several by repeatedly allowing the charger I was using then to stop charging itself (that charger stopped charging at about 1.40 volts). Once I learned that these need monitoring and that charging should stop at 1.3-1.33 volts I had many multiples of recharge cycles from my rechargeable batteries as I did when I allowed the charger I used then to cut off charging by itself. I have not found an NIMH battery charger that properly stops charging at 1.33 volts.
