These Spyderco bricks are great. I have all three, medium, thin and ultra thin. I would say they are best for experienced sharpeners. Neither of them are particularly aggressive, so you might get frustrated trying to bring back a very dull knife. You will want to add something more aggressive to your kit. Do your homework, don't buy them at random because you need a "good" sharpener and you don't know where to start. Depending on the steel and the amount of LOW pressure you use, they can load quickly and effectively stop cutting. I wash with a scouring powder before each use. One can read about sharpening for weeks and get hundreds of opinions on what is "better". My main set contains four diamond stones dmt, x natural, natural, fine and x fine. Along with Spydercos I'm covered for anything I might need. The Spyderco environment is said to be similar to dmt x Fine. I find something better. You can cut the same, but the Spyderco has smoother edges. Some people think dmt xfine and Spyderco brown are overkill, I don't. Some people think that subtle and medium are too similar, I don't, but I understand their thoughts and experiences. Some prefer wafer-thin to fine. I only use Ultra for certain jobs, others use it regularly. Do your homework these are good stones but you need to understand where they fit into a more complete sharpening process and there are different paths to a great blade.
