Review on VVKB Engine Heater Double Thermostats by Chris Bertoli

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The pump does NOT run continuously!

Pros: Installed on our Ford Explorer was easy. 1000 watts of heat is a good amount of power when plugged into a timer outlet. Additional Information: The temperature of the circulating coolant levels off at around 90°F when parked in an unheated (30°F) garage. The radiator stays at around 140F as it has a built in thermostat. With the Ford engine design, this heated coolant does not flow through the entire engine block, so the engine is not fully heated to 90°F. The engine heater is not to blame. The bad: The built-in thermostat turns off both the heating and the circulation pump! This is bad design; The circulation pump must work continuously to maintain the correct temperature of the entire coolant flow. Noticing this; I disassembled the device and reconfigured the circulation pump for continuous flow. Anyone who knows how to splice and solder wires should be able to handle this manufacturer-overlooked task.

Pros
  • Suitable for 16-22 mm (0.63" - 0.87") ID cooling water hoses, heat exchanger installed directly between coolant supply and return of the indoor unit - Done!
Cons
  • Functionality
