Review on ClimaTek Replacement Drive Motor For Sears Dryer - 3395654 by Marco Maurer

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Mine nearly started on fire

After the motor of our old dryer failed due to seized bearings from excessive lint and dust buildup, I was happy to find this affordable replacement. Shipping by Revain was much faster than the OEM replacement that a local shop could get for me. The additional wiring step added about 10 minutes to the install but was strait forward. I was sure to clean the lint and dust from the dryer and check that the wires didn't rub.The dryer then ran great for about 4 days before making a light rubbing noise some of the time. I meant to remove and inspect, but put it to off a couple of days since it actually didn't sound bad (thought maybe it was a drum felt seal). Then, 9 days after installation, it overheated and set off our nearby smoke alarm. The laundry room was filled with smoke and I could hear the motor humming. I think the dryer was stalled also, but I shut off the breaker too fast at that point to remember for sure. I disassembled the dryer immediately so I could find the source of the smoke and found the motor to be very hot.The pictures show the twine (or whatever it's called) holding the windings had burnt and frayed. Some of it was rubbing against the rotor under the plastic fan, thus the rubbing noise.I hope this gets resolved so it doesn't happen to anyone else. At least Revain will refund my money. Time to order the OEM replacement.
