It appears to be a very strong ladder made from high quality materials. It was well packed in shrink wrap and manufacturers box to protect the beautiful white paint on the stairs. Hinges and struts are finished in high-gloss chrome. The locking mechanism might seem a little flimsy for my personal taste, but it still does the job. You have to manually move the small locking hook every time you open and close the ladder; it will not snap automatically. Maybe it's considered safer because it forces you to do it manually. Warning: When opening the ladder, if you do not first move the safety hook to the side and properly engage it by hand, there is a risk that the hook will bend itself when you lean on the ladder with your weight. This doesn't detract from the overall quality of the stairs, but keep this in mind. After using it a few times, I found it a little heavier than I would have liked. And the actual steps are smaller than I prefer. This is valued at 330 pounds. Next time I'd probably go down to the 200-250lb security level for a bit less weight.
