I have two PS3 controllers, one red and one black, and for some reason the red one is not making a proper charging contact while my other controller is charging fine. This happens regardless of whether the controller is connected to the front or rear dock and regardless of which dongle is connected. Same effect. Maybe Sony made later versions of the PS3 controller lighter or something. In any case, I found a quick, if inelegant, solution to simply wrap a rubber band around the dock's base to pull the charging dongle to the metal contacts. . It's not great, but maybe the black rubber straps would make it less noticeable if I really cared. I know this may not be the perfect solution for some, but if you're still looking for a PS3 controller charging station in 2018, this isn't a bad option.
