They should be used for "jam, jelly" and have "waterproof sealed lids". The bottom of the second glass I poured the hot jelly into cracked and squirted the hot jelly everywhere. The lids didn't fit the jars properly at all and came off with every movement - again hot jelly was spilled everywhere. The lids cannot be screwed at all, so of course they cannot be closed to keep the food sterile and safe. VERY disappointing as they were to be used as wedding favors for my son and his fiancee." It was a waste of time and ingredients finding the jars and lids were broken. Would give no stars at all if I could. I would never recommend this item recommend - the jar is not well tempered and the ill-fitting lids make it unsafe to store anything in jars.
