I like bourbon, Irish and Scotch whiskey, so I decided to try making ice balls. I didn't know that the base is actually plastic, but only the black part is made of flexible silicone. The instructions state that the finished ice cream should sit on the counter for a few minutes before removing it, which I think is generally a good idea - straight from the freezer the mold doesn't come out easily, but with due care it's doable without damaging the shape. The only downside I found with this ice mold was the lack of instructions on how much water to add as water expands when it freezes. However, it seems best if you fill the molds completely and then simply remove the chunks of ice that overflow the mold, leaving the ice ball fully intact. 'chic' ice cube trays for variety in the cocktail hour.
