I ordered 2 sets of 2 x 4GB flash drives to install in my iMac (Retina 5K 27" 2017). At first I only ordered one set as my iMac already had a 2x4GB stick and 2 empty slots. This made the system extremely unstable and eventually the file system collapsed. Memory works well if it's the only RAM installed. but when mixed with the OEM RAM, the system becomes unstable. Thinking it was a fit issue, I doubled down and ordered another set (same item, same seller). The second kit wasn't really identical to the first (different packaging, different CAS lag. Installing both kits resulted in the same: unstable and ended up with a file system crash. At this point I suspected that one The RAM slots of my new iMac's storage is defective but as a last resort before lugging everything to the Apple Store I decided to buy this 2x8GB stick from OWC, I wasn't expecting this to work as it not only is it not oem ram it is a different capacity than oem sticks however i am happy to see that this owc ram works great my recommendation ?if you are just upgrading your computer ram and only 2 sticks of ram at a time that's probably fine, but if you're upgrading your iMac, just save yourself the headache! As far as I know, the iMac is the only computer with 4 DDR4 SODIMM slots, so is t this likely an iMac problem. I would also ask the seller to remove the 2017 iMac from the compatibility chart.
