The valve spring is too strong for the lift rod design.
I purchased this item to replace my shower bypass valve which failed because the spring was putting too much force on the lift rod threads and causing it to fail. Thread and shank are too small for this task. and there is no easy way to update it. I disassembled the deflector by unscrewing the assembly and then cutting about 3/4 inch off the spring. Then assembled and installed in the bathroom. It works much better now, but I suspect it will fail sooner than it should.
