Review on Hopkins 49975 Gauge Bonded Spool by Pete Hahn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Unobtrusive, easy to use, great performance

Slightly nice wire on a comfortable spool. The wire is stiff so the copper is definitely there, but I was surprised at how thin it is overall. For me this works better than 2 wire cable since I will be running through plastic pipes. Lowes and Home Depot sometimes offer big referral discounts, but I haven't had much luck with 2-wire or 2-wire deals lately, so that's what I got. The first thing I do with the wire is check the conductivity to avoid a headache and wasting time on the line. I tested it with a 27 watt 12 volt light bulb for the full 100 feet, noting the current and voltage at both ends - it works just like 12 AWG copper wire. In fact, I was wondering if they gave me the full 100 feet! . So I measured it, it came close enough. It's used to power a 60-watt, 12-volt water pump that's supposed to lift four feet (it's rated for five feet). I'm cutting it fine, I should try 10 gauge (nothing comes close for the price) or find a way to increase the voltage a bit on the other end. But I'm happy with this wire, it works the same as 12 gauge wire.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
