This Split Die saved my butt. I did not realize until too late that the threaded shaft was 1/2-20 not 1/2-13 until I had cross threaded a few turns on my boats steering mechanism. Fortunately there were still several undamaged threads but not at the end of the shaft. How could I know where to start rethreading so it would line up with the undamaged thread. This 2 piece rethreading die solves that problem because you can open the die and position it where the threads are good and use the die from that point out on the shaft so the threads will always line up.I had a little difficulty getting the die to fully seat in the thread root but when I began to turn the die it closed up and cleaned up the cross threaded area easily. It takes a little patience to get the pins lined up with the corresponding holes but not a big deal. I could thread a nut on with my fingers and the threads were pretty tight.This die is worth every penny if your threads are damaged at the beginning.
