I'm not a gunsmith, but it's clear that this isn't a perfect copy of the original. My main issue is the faux leather chin straps as the lining is perfect for me. The chin strap is somewhat abrasive and feels brittle overall. That being said, the quality of the helmet and balaclava is excellent, much better than what I expected for $50. Steel is strong and requires a hit with a ball-point hammer to dent it. It feels tight on the head. Note: 3.5lbs per head is not a joke, do not wear it for a long time or during intense exercise, it will strain your neck. Unless, of course, you're running a guerrilla campaign or something. The sad reality is that the only WWII helmets/gear available are Soviet surplus or Nazi reproductions. I know at least some of these helmets are used to commemorate a ruthless, aggressive empire, but hey, that's freedom. Eventually I will destroy my helmet, but that will be difficult!
