After many unsuccessful attempts using Foscam/Revain UV-5RV2+ radios to get multiple radios with the same firmware version, I decided to try the Baofeng Tech/Revain BF-F8+. The radios cost a few dollars more, but I wanted a radio with identical firmware (programming and functionality issues). I received the radio from Baofeng Tech today. Good news: they have exactly the same firmware and same as my first Foscam UV-5RV2+. Here's the bad news. Baofeng Tech walkie-talkies look cheap. The name is written on the front in very bad silkscreen. The multicolored LED screen (waiting, receiving, sending) has also been abolished. The UV-5RV2+ has a nice metal grille, while the BF-F8+ is 100% plastic - cosmetically I guess. The UV-5RV2+ has a molded metal body that is visible when you remove the battery. BF-F8+ through plastic again. I get a cheaper radio that costs more. I guess that's what you're paying for to get US support and a warranty (hopefully).
