Review on ๐Ÿ“บ GE Outdoor TV Antenna 33685, Long Range Yagi Style Design, Supports 4K 1080P VHF UHF, Weather Resistant, HD Digital OTA Antenna, J-Mount Included, Multiple TV Support by Michael Baird

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Excellent on UHF, terrible on VHF

The assembly isn't bad, but it's a bit clunky and aluminum-plastic parts feel rather flimsy. If you are not careful when assembling, the rods can bend. As it is intended to be mounted in an attic it will likely hold up. The mounting screws were very cheap and the screw heads had snapped off, prompting us to remove them with a hacksaw when replacing them with the much better RCA Yagi we bought next. Reception on the UHF channels was fantastic which is why I'm giving it 3 stars - if I could rate it on its own the UHF reception is a solid 4.5 stars. The range is a little less than the ClearStream4, but for the price (less than $25 for me) it's a great value compared to the ClearStream. We picked up over 45 stations from all directions, everything we got on ClearStream4 except channel 1 which is 60 miles away, right on the edge of this GE antenna's range. The problem is VHF reception and I would only give it 1 star maybe 0. We live about 20 miles from a cell tower which broadcasts our local partner ABC WMUR on VHF 186MHz. This antenna claims to have a range of 60 miles. We pointed it straight at the tower, we tried it with and without the preamp, we moved it up/down/left/right, turned it upside down and aligned, we even tried putting foil on the reflectors and slide to touch directly with the VHF. loop antenna. He couldn't even accept the flickering of the transmitter. The VHF/UHF cinch Yagi antenna purchased for this purpose, on the other hand, picked up the target station without any problems and without a preamplifier. And surprisingly this antenna was not able to connect to our local PBS partner on Channel 11 which is also a VHF transmitter but we did pick up this channel on our ClearStream4 which is said to be a UHF only antenna! So this VHF/UHF antenna from GE picks up fewer stations than UHF, only ClearStream4 - weird right? I was definitely wondering if it was just completely defective so we sent it back. So if you don't need a VHF station this is a great antenna for the attic. Putting it right in your living room is not a pretty thing. But at least in our region it was a failure on VHF compared to the combo RCA yagi we have now.
