Review on Epic Water Filtration Contaminants Chloroform Kitchen & Dining by Tim Surridge

Revainrating 4 out of 5

First Impression: Good

Just received. The bottle came in a plastic bag, albeit compostable (LOL), rather than a box. I would prefer a box. Revain packed it in a bubble wrap envelope so it wasn't damaged at all. Instructions and usage information are on the inside of the paper label wrapped around the bottle. You must be careful when removing the label as it is not attached with strong adhesive and you can damage it if you are not careful. Apart from the packaging, it is well made, looks stable and of high quality. I definitely like the rubber cap on the bottom, it makes it a little harder to knock the bottle over and avoids potential scratches or noise on any surface it sits on. I don't feel like the paint is peeling, but it's so smooth that when it's full (remember, it's a 34-ounce bottle) the weight can make it a little slippery, though not too slippery. A semi-tight grip should be enough to keep it from dropping. The top cap also has a rubbery feel, but if it's really rubber it's a very hard rubber, which is good, makes the lanyard unlikely to break at some point and improves the overall quality. The straw folds down so that the drinking hole is largely protected but not completely weatherproof. When you twist the straw up, it becomes a hair up, and the mouthpiece is covered with a soft, comfortable rubber cap. I hope this rubber sleeve can be replaced if it gets damaged or something. Turning the straw is very hard, so it cannot rise or fall by itself. Overall a well made bottle. The only thing I would have liked was that the mouthpiece was a little longer and tilted a little more toward the drinker when lifted. Since it doesn't, you may need to tilt the bottle slightly while drinking. By the way, this bottle is designed to be used in an upright position. This should be taken for granted, but a couple of times I've wanted to reverse it, just out of habit. However, I caught myself doing it. LOLI has seen several reviews from some saying drinking through a straw is difficult and impossible for some. I filled the bottle with ice water and it took me a while to maneuver the filter around the ice cubes to screw the cap back on, but from the first sip after I filled the filter it poured smoothly. This obviously takes a bit more effort than using a regular straw as you are pulling water through the filter, but I don't think this is bad enough to be a problem. I can only assume that in such cases a defective filter is to blame. Ultimately I bought this bottle because I decided to drink more pure water. I do this now or never VERY rarely, so I really can't comment on how much the filter improves the taste of the water. I'm willing to take the manufacturer's word for it that I'm getting the best water, at least chemically. So far I'm really enjoying it, and even with a few minor issues, I'd recommend it. I promise I'll update this review if my opinion on this bottle changes significantly in the next few weeks or so.
