They don't make them like they used to.
I think that with the advent of mobile phones, most alarm clock manufacturers have started to save a lot on the quality of their products. Remember, just a few years ago you could buy a watch with a cord that plugged into an outlet. Wall instead of a cheap adapter? A watch that could last for years? This tiny thing is flimsy and obviously very cheaply made. These external power supplies don't last long. However, it's not worth returning and I just put it in the bathroom.
