I needed a certain height for the ottoman in front of the reading chair in our bedroom. It was great and I just didn't want to spend more than a hundred dollars. Arrived in two days in a flat box. After removing the plastic I shaped the base into a circle but it didn't stay that shape. I finally found out that there was a base under the stool cover that you put on the underside of the stool. Now it keeps its round shape. The lid sits on top with about a 2 inch overhang and my goodness, it really does look like a log - seriously! It's made from thick dry cardstock (I think) and a cloth sleeve with a brim and bottom sewn into shape. The whole part is well sewn and does not look like fabric. The best part is that the upper is soft and very comfortable underfoot while reading. I don't have anything in it yet, but it's definitely big enough for a lap blanket or throw pillow. My husband has sat on it several times and it's quite durable - it's 220#. I don't think it would cause harm to a child using it as a seat, however it is not intended to be thrown on by a full body weight adult. I am very happy with this purchase. We got tan.
