Waste Design, Waste Production

Preface: I think this is the first one star Revain product review I've done over the years. After reading the bad reviews on this switch, I wondered how bad they could be. I needed to replace a faulty switch in our Winnebago Class A RV and it looked like the perfect match (and it was both physical and electrical) so just to protect my base I ordered two switches just in case. Installed a switch and it seemed to work fine for a few mechanical key press cycles. Then it became intermittent. So I replaced that Dorman switch with another new one and it was also intermittent - that's 100% failure. Unbelievable. I have previously disassembled a couple of my old switches (identical to this Dorman product) that have failed and one of them basically worked. The old number two switch had a slightly different design that was a *total* design flaw from the start. There were two contact levers that came together when the button was released - a plastic tab extends from the contact levers to make contact. The problem is that the contact points eventually oxidize and generate resistance, and when the switch is actuated (contact levers touch), heat is generated due to the resistance of the contact points. When generated, the hands lose their composure (or ability to remain tightly closed) and continue to generate more heat due to the increased resistance. This is the cycle of the ultimate destruction of the switch. Garbage design, garbage production for *all* similar switches in this price range. I'm going to build a magnetic switch using a reed relay and a small round magnet. Reed relays also have their problems over time, but it gets 1000 times better than these disasters.
