I received Reign: the Final Battle Royale specifically to write a review. That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(Please see the enclosed video and pictures.)Summary: Reign: the Final Battle Royale is a light miniatures game for 2-4 players that takes about 30 minutes for ages 8+. The game is distributed by Play Monster. The board is comprised of seven pieces, overlayed with a hex pattern for movement. Each turn is recorded on a time tracker. On specific turns, one of the seven pieces is destroyed and all of the miniatures on that segment. Each turn, a player can move his pieces and battle his opponents pieces. There are jewel tokens that the players can collect to give an edge either by granting additional movement or by adding to the players combat score. Units that are defeated are removed from the board. The player with the last pieces on the board wins.On to the Dr Games’ Criteria …GO/NO GO Criterion• Complexity: (GO) The game is not complex, but there is enough nuance and strategy that it offers a fun challenge for new miniature players. The game is easy enough for the 8-10 year olds to understand and win.• Balanced: (GO ) The game is completely balanced.• Chance (GO) There is a good balance between luck and skill. The segments that are destroyed are drawn at random, but the players have warning for many turns that the segment will be destroyed. Combat is not a fixed event, but putting the right unit against and adversary and using the jewel tokens will improve your odds of victory.• Clarity: (GO) The rules are completely clear and well illustrated.• Reasonable Time: (GO) The set-up takes about five minutes and the game plays in about 30 minutes. This is a reasonable time for the game play and fun generated.Bonus Criteria• Social: There is nothing either social or unsocial about this game.• Unique/Interesting Mechanics: The destruction of the segment and the various unit strengths are interesting.• Informed: Not for this game.• Rewards Throughout: Every time you avoid having units destroyed and every time you are able to defeat an enemy piece, you draw closer to victory.I highly recommend this game.
