For the price this item looks and works well. It's okay, the suction isn't great, but it's "good enough" to trap fat. My main cons about this unit are the way it installs under the cabinet. There are a number of issues with installation1: The power cord sits flush against the back of the device. If it is installed under the cabinets, meaning it cannot be installed flush with the wall, it must be installed forward an inch to allow the cable to route into the cabinet. 2: For under cabinet installation, there are only 4 screws that go straight up. These screws are very soft and will break easily if tightened at all, even if the holes are pre-drilled. The screws are also long enough to get stuck in the case. Screws are NOT an acceptable method of mounting under a cabinet, it just doesn't work. It's also incredibly difficult to hold it in place and drill the screws in place. The two rear screws are located inside the device, so a long screwdriver or drill will not fit. You'll need to use a short Phillips screwdriver to get this working. 3: The suction device has an inherent design flaw. It has holes for back mounting to drywall AND top mounting. They are pre-cut and have no perforations. This means if you mount it under a cupboard it will just try to suck air out of the holes in the back as they are wide open, rather than through a filter. I covered the holes with duct tape (pictured) which helped the vacuuming a bit. 4: The light on the back of the unit is just not in the right place to shine on the hob. Devices with front lighting work much better. FOR PROPER INSTALLATION UNDER A CABINET Ignore the instructions provided. 1: Mark the holes on the cabinet where they need to be and drill them onto the cabinet. 3: Fix the device to the screws with a washer and a nut, wing nuts are easier to screw on by hand. Attached is a photo of a type I had that worked well. All in all: if you want to be cheap and good enough, this is the place for you. However, if you can afford to spend a little more, chances are you can get a better fit and suction with a nicer device.
