Not bad, would buy more

This is my first time replacing linkage bearings or doing any other bike suspension work. But I recently bought a 99 kx250 and am trying to follow all the steps that you veterans know and do regularly to keep your machines running smoothly. After replacing all the bearings and seals below, I decided to look at the suspension bearings. The swingarm was fine, still lubed relatively clean, and all the bearings turned smoothly with no scratches or sticking, so they were repackaged. The clutch bearings were pretty much stuck, so I researched new bearing kits. Went with the pivot work because I heard all the balls were crap, but that's all hearsay. I also heard that it doesn't matter because they will still be beaten and dirty. So I started watching instructional videos and everyone was fighting for their lives with these camps. I'm about to move across the country and I'm trying to put everything back together before then, so I really didn't want to fight for your living situation. Then I see the Motion Pro bearing tool. I'm talking, I must be excited. Excuse me. The tool worked great. I didn't have to use a blind bearing puller, but I'm sure it will come in handy at some point. The idea is a long open bolt, two nuts and washers on which you put special "nests" and the bearing needs to be pulled in the middle. Looks like a 30mm and a set of smaller mm sockets. If you're on a budget, you can make one at your home warehouse (no blind bearing puller) for about $30. I sprayed some PB Blaster on any bearings that needed removing and started after that. I don't have a vise, so I attached an adjustable wrench to my workbench and used a long 19mm bar (using the bar from my jack as a crowbar) on the other end. The bearings popped right out. The bottom thrust bearing press wasn't long enough so I had to use a different socket to get it all the way out. All in all a good tool. Based on the amount of my usage I would recommend. If you are on a budget you may want to wrestle with it or try to make something special for your HD or lows.Update needs. I was excited to see that the bearing press had to go into the bearing to keep the needles from falling out, but there isn't one that fits the lower shock bearing for my 99 kx250. This pissed me off for a minute and sure enough the pins fell out but it wasn't that hard to put them back in and the bearings went in like oil in a hole.

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • Minor repairability
