The advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Soft Split Very Fade Half Cotton

UPDATE AUG. 2019***Lion Brand have released additional solid colors in Intense Silver Gray and Deep Cherry Red, both available at my local discount store. I'm looking forward to richer gem tones like this as I wasn't inspired by the mottled multicolored hues. ****Overall I really like this yarn in whipped cream. (I've personally seen other colors at Walmart and didn't like how diluted they were. If there were rich cotton tones, I'd order them. The photos I've seen here of Lion Brand aren't true, so if you (If you're not looking for really muted colors, you'll be disappointed with real yarn.) I've used this yarn for knitting, crocheting, and weaving, and I have a few pros and cons. Advantages: 1. Very soft. It has a matte finish, so it's more plush than silky.2. The color of the whipped cream is amazing. Slightly warmer than off-white with a gray base, this light buttery shade has a rich appeal. Large shots (200 grams or 7 ounces, 358 meters or 392 yards).4. Well dk (#3) I prefer to worsted (#4) when knitting colored or mesh patterns.4. Even if it's a blend, you can still block your work (wet block or spray, don't vape, you'll melt the poly)5. The polyester content means your finished item will be much lighter than if you were to use 100% cotton. CONS: 1. This is splitting. (That's jargon in the fiber community :) Although they are 50% cotton and 50% polyester, the four layers are only slightly twisted, so crocheting especially unwinds these S-twist layers and causes splitting.2. You can feel the polyester content a little. Some blends, like Scheepjes Whirl, have the same fiber content, but synthetics are silkier. Some types of nylon, extra fine acrylic, and bamboo viscose can be much more silky soft. Overall I think this is a high quality yarn.

Pros
  • Heavy Duty Finish
Cons
  • Outlet Required
