We garden. A fair amount. Right now, in our toolset, we have a Fiskars, a no-name pink handled bypass, a Felco #2, and now this Yiyitools. Unfortunately, it's the end of November in the Pacific Northwest, so there isn't too much to prune, but I have been working on the courage to bring down my roses even lower before the spring, so this was a good excuse to do some cutting.The trick here is - this pruner is BRAND NEW. Of course it is going to cut pretty nicely. So I took a chance and I did some cuts with the Felco and some cuts with the Yiyi and I plan on going on and checking on them later in the spring.The Yiyi felt good enough in my hands. The weight was a little on the heavy side - and I checked all four against our kitchen scale. The Yiyi was the second most heavy of the crew.[Fiskars: 270g, Yiyi: 266g, Felco: 254g, No-Name Pink: 236g]The jaw and the blade kept their position cutting some decent sized stems. In contrast, the pink no-name is notorious for separating when it has to cut anything bigger than a twig and it leaves a very uneven cut.The Fiskars doesn't separate at the hinge, but it just doesn't feel good in my hands and it has a terrible hitch in its opening such that it needs to get manually opened each time.Basically, I tend to try to swap with my husband if he has the Felco. He has stronger hands and can use the lesser two to get the job done, but I need all the help I can get - which includes a solid hinge and a sharp blade. My hope is that this Yiyi will make it so that we're not both angling for the Felco when we're working together.Here's why I'm taking off a star right out of the gate. The jaw. Note how it is smooth and not textured like the Felco. That little bit of texture helps. Furthermore, the jaw rivets are fairly inset. This prevents the blade from having a smooth cut all the way across. These insets are just going to collect dirt and make a mess of the top blade eventually.I'm going to update this review again in the spring, and I've attached three photos. First is of the comparison crew. Second is the only in focus shot of cutting with the Yiyi to prove that the blades stayed parallel and the third is a comparison shot of the Felco and the Yiyi jaw so you can see what I'm talking about.More in the spring of 2022!
