Bulky, awkward, questionable defense value

I bought this thinking I would use it to protect the most expensive lens I own. I suspect this could work as shock and bump protection, but I don't see how it would help protect against rain. In fact, when water seeps under the lens cap, I see that it's trapped there and can't evaporate. And that lens cap is certainly not waterproof and doesn't prevent water from getting underneath. Camouflage pattern looks very nice. But again, I doubt its value not only in aesthetic terms. I've never had a case of wild animals running away due to the color of my lens. But of course it happened to me because of my own sudden movements. All in all, putting this lens cap on the lens is the first major difficulty. It comes with instructions that assign a number to each element of the lens cap. And it comes with instructions stating that you must insert each numbered piece. But there are no markings on the products themselves. So the instructions say to attach part 2 here? Which is #2? Who knows? I suspect if they just numbered the lens cap pieces it would have been a breeze to attach. Without this marking it is too difficult to tell which part is which. Once you figure that out, you have the problem that all controls are closed. Want to press a button and detach the lens hood? No problem. I'm sure the button is in there somewhere. It's under the lid with no indication of it, but you should be able to find it by touching it. focus ring? zoom ring? They're also hidden and it's impossible to see what focal length you're using. The switches for optical stabilization and such are under a clear plastic window, giving you a good view of them. This plastic window was made to mock you. Of course you can see them, but good luck correcting them. It's not easy to do it through the plastic window. All in all I fiddled and put this lens cap on only to take it off again as it was difficult to operate the controls on my lens. I regret that I was too lazy and didn't put it on until a few days after the return period had closed. Since I can't return it, I'll probably throw it away. I am very disappointed and cannot recommend this lens cap.

Pros
  • Camouflage patterns help with concealment by disrupting lens shape
Cons
