I bought this tip finder to replace our previous version which is around 30 years old. This spike finder is easy to use and accurate. It can identify the stud, show the center of the stud and also locate AC power cords. There is also the option to search deeper for piles located behind multiple layers of wall/gypsum; I haven't tried this option yet. It's a shame you didn't have this product before you recently installed your garage shelving as it would have been very useful and saved you from making additional holes in your ceiling. Calibration is required before each new use, but takes about 2-3 seconds. Overall this product is accurate, the display is large and works very well. I would recommend.
