I bought two of these as I intended to be a serious 4 fan Noctua and despise the anemic but very slightly positioned fans it comes with but after I got it under an Alienware M17 R4 and M17 R5 (along with the much needed Samsung 960 Pro SSD heatsinks - see below in this post) No need to spend more money and time, this U3 Plus does the job well. In my case (see what I did there) the SSDs got hot. Case in point and a simple fix that brought temperatures down enough that with this cooler running at full speed during heavy use there is no CPU/GPU throttling and I get great FPS at 4K on the M17 R4 and R5. I've been using a higher fan speed/power and while temperatures can drop, this isn't always a good solution and can affect the laptop's ability to expel hot air as intended. You can reduce the heat without re-gluing the processor and fully pumping the U3 cooler. But then what's the point? Everyone needs a nine-fan laptop cooler that doubles as a personal hovercraft and indoor skydiving platform.
