Yes I remember Yugo cars although I have never owned one. But I know a good car when I drive it. Going from the Nikon D70 (a good camera back then) to the D200 (a more professional camera) was a revelation for me. The build quality of the D200 is excellent. The magnesium alloy and associated weight of the camera body make it clear that you are holding something durable and capable of withstanding harsh environments. Very similar to old metal body Nikon lenses from the 70's. The D200 has really great features. From programmable buttons to the built-in interval timer. Yes, the camera can take time-lapse photos. For me it was a fantastic discovery. I wanted to try this and with this built in function I was able to do it successfully for a while. I use D90 at work and have been thinking about buying D90. God I'm so glad I didn't do that. The D200 is a much better camera in every way. 10.2 MP does a great job of conveying the details of the subject. A good lens will do the rest. As an experiment, I started experimenting with old Nikon AI and AI-S manual focus lenses on the D200. The results are surprisingly good. Apparently I'm not the only one who noticed this, because the prices for old Nikon AI and AI-S manual focus lenses are quite high. However, the pictures they take are truly remarkable. Just set up (there is a menu option) for non-CPU lenses and you can still get EXIF data on the camera. Pretty cool for old lenses from the 70's. Buy Nikon D200 and you will be happy.
