Review on Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ Microphone: Optimize Car DVD Receiver Audio Performance by Isaac Ismail

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not good for good sound, but for pretty good time alignment.

Expensive for what it is and doesn't work well. I have owned this mic for a number of years and have used it on two dual din video heads. It's really only good for time adjustment, the EQ it sets is very dull and weak. I get a boring mess every time, but the time alignment is pretty good. Easily adjust the speaker levels and crossover to your desired sound level. This thing doesn't like subwoofers, it set my subwoofer level to -16 which made it almost inaudible (-3 where I thought it sounded). I think Pioneer assumes people have crappy factory paper speakers and treats the EQ with care so they don't distort, but the factory Infinity sound system in my 2003 car can certainly handle anything that might bog head unit, so I want to drive her to the best of my ability. After a little tweaking, I got a clear system that didn't distort.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • No insurance
