Excellent case albeit with some problems with the cable and cooling

First of all, this is one of the few controllers with Asmedia's bridge chip that is among the best. The controller was truly plug and play and only worked with the WD Black drive. Which drive you install depends on what you need. If you're going to write a lot on it, I'd say you need a TLC disc. However, this is limited to 1GB/s due to USB (and yes, I tested that speed) so you don't want anything too high-end overheating. If you're using something with QLC flash, it will slow down when the cache is full. I found the WD Black SSD to be perfect for this. It's not the fastest on the market anymore and has a great value, but it will support more than 1GB/s write speed for the entire drive. It doesn't make contact with the drive, leaves about 1.5mm of clearance, and air is a poor conductor, so the drive can heat up but the case doesn't. I'll probably solve this with sliced layers of aluminum on a soda can, but if you're using an SSD that doesn't get too hot, this shouldn't be a problem. Another problem is the cable. Its length (about 18 inches) is enough to support a read/write speed of 1GB/s. The front USB-C port with 24" extension didn't work for me. The combination of this and that cable caused the drive to not work properly. I was able to get it working with a relatively expensive Thunderbolt3 cable that is of a much higher standard. Please note that the cable worked perfectly on 2 computers when connected directly without another extension cable.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • So far so good
