The aging fan in my Tektronix TDS3000 oscilloscope sounded terrible and needed to be replaced. Lately I've been getting more and more annoyed by the noisy fans that are common in review units so I looked around for a quieter replacement and after being impressed with other Noctua fans I settled on this one. The original fan was a 24V model, which is much rarer than 12V fans of this size, so I planned to add a regulator. As it turned out, even though the resistor is already in series with the original fan, with the new Noctua fan connected directly, the voltage is only a little over 10V. I used the connector from the old fan to make an adapter to connect it to. and it all fits perfectly. The airflow is like an old fan and the scope is quieter than ever. Unlike some high-performance enthusiasts who tend to have a flashy style aimed at the gaming PC crowd, this one doesn't look out of place in a professional review unit.
