Review on Galanz GSWWA16BKSA10 SpeedWave Convection Combi Speed by David Romo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like it but no jury yet

I chose 1.6cc. ft. to see if I want to invest in one for the truck. I ordered it and it arrived the next day and although the box was a bit tatty the machine was in good condition. The first thing you'll notice is that this thing is BIG. I have never seen this device until now as Walmart only presents a small 0.9cc device. Feet slightly larger than a 700W microwave. By the way, Galanz needs to change the way this device is packaged inside and out. The packaging is ½ inch thick styrofoam... It should be at least 1 inch thick in my opinion and several pieces are microwave wrapped, although everything was fine inside the packaging was almost destroyed. The collar ring had lost some of its covering, having been scratched by the brazier's legs, where they no longer needed protection. That night I roasted ribeye and some asparagus @ 400* for 8 minutes… next time I'll cook 10 minutes but it was good and I wasn't disappointed. I wanted to try the fryer tonight and made some wings. I may have messed up because I put the fryer on top of the grill, which raises everything 2 inches higher. The collar and frying pan had to be placed directly on the glass. In any case, these were big, meaty wings, not the usual wings you can buy at Walmart. I brushed them with spray oil and seasoned both sides. I baked them at 400* for 30 minutes, then flipped them over and noticed a pleasantly lightly crispy crust. At this point they were only 20* from done so I finished them by cooking an additional 10 minutes after flipping them. They had a little crunch on the first side but none on the second side. As I said, it was on a brazier, not on a glass slab. I finally finished them on a pellet grill which gave them a slightly charred flavor…. If you've never had charred wings, you just don't know what you're missing out on. Let's get back to the rating. The outside of this unit is hot.! I don't know how it compares to a small device, but it does to a 1.6cc device. The futa gets so hot you can hardly put your hand on the top, especially at the back. I think they could use some kind of insulation to keep the case from getting that hot. The 1000w microwave itself works well and I love that you can just turn the knob to set the time and just press to start it. Admit that this thing has a lot of cooking space and a lot of possibilities. I thought about buying 1.2 cubic feet but the overall size was only 1 inch smaller. It'll never replace your oven, smoker or BBQ grill, but let's face it, it's a snazzy convection microwave toaster. I bought this appliance to eliminate the toaster and microwave by combining them into one unit to free up countertop space. So time will tell... As with anything, there is a learning curve. The final jury has not yet been determined.
