It CANNOT BE CONNECTED to a garden hose. It has the wrong strings. You need this to make it work. (SHADED 3/4" GHT female x 3/4" NPT male, GHT to NPT adapter, brass fitting, garden hose adapter, industrial metal brass garden hose to connect pipe fittings) It does not sit flat on the ground, but it wasn't a problem for me because I mounted it on the wall in the dog house. It is a solid metal construction. There is no drain plug. The rolled metal edge is smooth to avoid hurting the animal. However, the bottom of the chamfer is sharp, so be careful when installing. Has two screw/bolt holes for mounting (3/8). I love that it's metallic and has a durable feel.
