Review on Wayne PC4 Repair Kit - Model 56671-WYN1 in Black by Ben Diesel

Not universal for all pumps of the same type

I took the risk that this is what I need for an (apparently) identical pump under the Superior brand because I can't find a kit otherwise that is sold elsewhere specifically for this and I needed it fast. Well it seems like a good kit but the instructions for swapping parts were horribly poor. I have to watch youtube videos to understand this. Bottom line: this kit might be perfect for Wayne pumps (I don't know for sure, maybe it was a design flaw) but the impeller will NOT fit the Superior's driveshaft. The Superior has a metal cradle embedded in plastic on the back of the wheel and the bottom is relatively flush with the rest of the back of the wheel - the outer surface of the cradle is flat plastic. The Wayne wheel is simply a plastic receiver with a bulbous plastic front and a receiver shaft that extends beyond the back of the wheel. (sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm not a pump tech) Bottom line, I tried grinding off the extra length, but the threaded receiver wasn't long enough internally for the driveshaft. I've tried deepening and rethreading it with the dremel but that didn't work either. Conclusion: While I assume the Wayne kit will fit the Wayne pump, it will not fit the Superior pump of the same design. I can't be sure it wasn't a design flaw in the impeller in this kit, but anyway if you're like PSA trying to order it like I did to fix a similar looking 0.5hp cast iron transfer pump, it won't work with superior and drummond or other similar brands i'm not sure.

Pros
  • practical item
Cons
  • so far so good
